REFUSE COLLECTOR

$10.30 hourly - $21,424 annually

Closing: Open Until Filled


The purpose of the class is to collect refuse for delivery to disposal site. The class is responsible for following prescribed route, collecting/loading refuse, disposing, cleaning and maintaining vehicles, and completing logs or forms. The class works according to set procedures under general supervision.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Follows prescribed route picking up refuse.

Answers customers questions as required and provides assistance as required.

Delivers refuse to designated disposal sites.

Cleans up around facilities including raking, sweeping, picking up trash, or other tasks.

Cleans, washes, and may perform minor maintenance on vehicles.

Completes logs or forms as required documenting activities.

DATA INVOLVEMENT:

Compares or inspects items against a standard.

PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:

Follows instructions and orders of supervisor.

INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:

Handles or uses machines, tools, or equipment that require moderate instruction and experience such as vehicles.

REASONING REQUIREMENTS:

Performs routine work using common sense.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Reads basic sentences, instructions, or work orders; writes basic sentences and completes uncomplicated job forms; speaks sentences using basic grammar.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Performs simple, repetitive manual tasks following a few definite procedures; performs minor short term planning; requires little attention for accurate results.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:

Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

None Required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires over one month and up to and including three months.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching, and lifting all of the time, exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and some skill and adeptness in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

The job risks exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, disease/pathogens, and toxic/caustic chemicals

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing, speaking, and depth perception.

JUDGMENTS AND DECISIONS:

Guides others making a few decisions, affecting the individual and a few coworkers.
