MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN HELPER

$10.30 hourly – $21,424 Annual Base

Full-Time Regular

The purpose of the class is to assist in maintaining buildings, facilities, and grounds.  The class is responsible for maintenance of outdoor areas and maintenance and repair of buildings or facilities.  The class works according to some procedures, decides how and when to do things under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.  Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Assists in maintaining outdoor areas operating medium equipment such as mowers, gang mowers and light trucks; picks up trash or debris from outdoor areas and hauls to disposal area.
  • Installs or performs maintenance and repairs on buildings such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry or other; performs minor repair on doors, windows, locks, bulletin boards, roofs, and gutters and etc., as necessary.
  • Assists with maintenance of equipment such as washing, cleaning, etc.

INVOLVEMENT WITH DATA, PEOPLE, AND THINGS

DATA INVOLVEMENT:

Requires comparing or inspecting items against a standard.

PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:

Follows instructions and orders of supervisor.

INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:

Requires handling or using machines, tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as gang mowers, tractors, vehicles, and hand or power tools; may repair power tools and equipment.

COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

REASONING REQUIREMENTS:

Requires performing semi-routine work with occasional problems.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires performing basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Reads basic sentences, instructions, or work orders; writes basic sentences and completes uncomplicated job forms; speaks sentences using basic grammar.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Performs manual tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgment with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:

Requires high school, GED, or specialized vocational training.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

CLASS – C – CDL FLORIDA DRIVERS LICENSE

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires over three months and up to and including six months.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time, exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and considerable skill and adeptness in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

The job may risk exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibrations, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, and moving machinery.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
